Educational Framework

The Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life advises and supports members of the community through an educational lens. The OSFL educational framework includes sisterhood/brotherhood, student growth & wellbeing, civic engagement, and academic engagement.

Leveraging this framework, our dedicated team fosters numerous opportunities for student development, including council advising, chapter coaching, community advisor training, and a range of educational programs. Moreover, we strive to enrich the student experience by facilitating attendance and presentations at leadership conferences while also investing in residential education for student growth.

Sisterhood/Brotherhood
Sisterhood/Brotherhood, or a sense of belonging, is the primary reason individuals join fraternities and sororities. We strive to cultivate a community where members have meaningful connections with their chapter members, organization, and institution. Students commit to the fraternal experience when their sisterhood/brotherhood fosters an atmosphere of authenticity and shared experiences.

Student Growth and Wellbeing
Members will flourish in student growth and wellbeing through development that encourages the exploration of their character, values, leadership philosophy, various identities, and personal well-being. Through creating opportunities for ongoing individual and collective development, our office seeks to enhance members’ and chapters’ experiences holistically.

Civic Engagement
Civic engagement, emphasizing individual and social responsibility, is a core component as to why sororities and fraternities exist. By engaging in shared governance, accountability, ethical leadership, philanthropy, and service, students gain an understanding of local and global issues that inform how they commit to making a positive social impact in serving their communities.

Academic Engagement
Fostering academic engagement outside of the classroom supports students’ scholarly endeavors while promoting a community driven by inquiry. We aim to accomplish this through connecting students to university resources and creating opportunities for exploration of academic interests beyond the classroom while reinforcing authentic self-reflection practices.
